Since our thoughts, beliefs, laws and sentiments are expressed in words, analysis of these words can provide us with, on one level, a tool to aid the most profound contemplation of meaning on another level, a banal cross referencing tool devoid of any significant verbal meaning. The term concordance is usually employed in the field of literary and linguistic studies, but over the years the concordance has become a common term in many different fields of study. They also treat the relationships between words and phrases and can help with the study of syntactic structures.
